Objectives
Complete
English proficiency–not just classroom knowledge–is
the goal of Selnate. Our objectives are:
- To
prepare our students to function effectively in American
culture and college life.
- To
develop our students' confidence in their English
skills.
- To
ensure that our students feel comfortable communicating
with native English speakers.
Curriculum
Students
take examinations which place them into the class levels
appropriate to their individual abilities. Selnate
has up to seven levels ranging from beginning to TOEFL,
GRE/GMAT, and college preparation. Please
note that schedules and class availability may vary
from semester to semester. Please contact
us for current information.
In
addition to the fundamental skills like grammar, reading,
and writing, the classes emphasize the communicative
skills of speaking, listening, and giving presentations.
Students master skills needed in college, such as note-taking,
giving oral presentations, taking tests, and writing
research papers.
Students
learn about culture and gain practical experience by
interacting with native English speakers in the classrooms
and living environments. Homestay
experiences, in particular, reinforce the classroom
lessons significantly.
Selnate
presents a "Certificate of Completion" to
each student who successfully completes the full semester's
work with a passing grade and meets the minimum attendance
requirements (contact us for
more details).
Individual
Consultation
Selnate
is committed to the personal growth of each studentnot
just English improvement. Staff are provided to
assist students in achieving their personal educational
goals. Assistance usually can be provided in the
students' native language as needed.
Schedule
Our
classes currently run Monday through Thursday, 4 1/2
hours per day. Depending on the size of enrollment for
each semester, classes may be offered in the morning,
afternoon, and/or evening. A typical, popular morning
schedule is from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday - Thursday.

free and always optional. Free activities may include

areas, and parties. Activities that may require a fee
may include one-day trips to Salt Lake City, Bingham
Copper Mine, Arches National Monument, Hogle Zoo, and
Pioneer Park.
